  16. for Life magazine; of a heart attack; in Trevignano, Italy,
  17. near Rome. A self-proclaimed "real hick" from Iowa, Hamblin
  18. joined Life at the end of World War II and covered stories from
  19. India to the Yukon and practically everywhere in between. She
  20. became Rome bureau chief in 1956, and wrote seven books, including
  21. the buoyant commemorative That Was the LIFE.
